Ye Olde Gift Shoppe

I usually associate Gift Shoppes with Malls.

Manhattan used to have a lot more stationers and gift shops...

This one is crammed with stuff like Obama mugs and Betty Boop dolls.

I wonder what audience they are playing to.

Oh yeah, when I moved to NY found most of my NY friends referred to these knick-knacks as "chachkeys" ( Yiddish expression).

But I have not heard that word in years...typical of how language and slang change over time.
