Search for innovation founder
Published 28/04/2014

THE search to find the north's next innovation founder has begun.

The awards seek to find a person who has achieved distinction in founding, leading or building a celebrated local life sciences or technology based business. Previous winners of the esteemed accolade, part of the Northern Ireland Science Park (NISP) Connect Invent Awards, include the late Professor John Anderson

of HeartSine Technologies (2010); Dr Hugh Cormican, founder and director of Andor Technology (2011); Dr Tom Eakin of TG Eakin (2012); and Dr Peter FitzGerald, managing director of Randox Laboratories (2013).

This years winner will be announced after an extensive judging process and will be the guest of honour at the Invent awards gala dinner in October.

NISP Connect programme manager, Peter Edgar,
said: "The Innovation Founder Award is about celebrating innovators who have been instrumental in developing and growing our local life science and technology companies. "By recognising and commending their work and contribution to Northern Ireland, we can inspire the new inventors coming through with ideas and concepts which have the potential to revolutionise the industry."

Julie Ann O'Hare, business banking director at Bank of Ireland which sponsors the award said: "This is an opportunity for the Northern Ireland public to recognise an individual who is an accomplished business leader, whose business story has and continues to encourage innovation and inspire our entrepreneurial talent. "The previous four winners have established the Innovation Founder Award really as an esteemed accolade

and they are proof that Northern Ireland innovation continues to succeed on a global business scale."
Last year's winner, Dr Peter FitzGerald, managing director of Randox Laboratories, started the medical diagnostic company in 1982 with just six people. It now employs 1,200 staff in offices worldwide.

Nominations can be registered online at www.invent2014.co. The closing date for entries is May 28.
